Shoot Your Shot
So you know that feeling when you're watching the game and see the guy that gets to shoot his shot from half court for some amazing prize, and you think "I coulda made that shit". Well, on December 22, 2017 I had a chance to prove that iiii was worthy of the chance. Not only would I be able to shoot a half court shot in order to win a trip to Barbados, but I would shoot a lay-up, free throw, andddd half court shot each for a prize. Now the pressure was on because our good friend Lauren Roach who works for the Nets would advise me that I would be the first female in Nets Basketball history to attempt the feat, which is why she wanted me to do it. I had the experience (played ball for over 20 years) and the willingness to make a fool of myself if need be. We had actually bought tickets to the game but since we got the good plug (Lauren) we decided we should give our tickets away to our best friend Loren and my god son Taurus, make it a family affair to witness the momentous occasion we were embarking on.
So the media team comes to prep me before the shots and I start to get nervous because they're talking me up, asking me questions, telling me about all the horrible shots they've seen before... and then it was time!
I am escorted on the floor , body the lay-up (of course). Shoot the free throw, BRICK. :(
Now time for the grandaddy of them all , the half-court shot.
First one goes up - jusssst short of the rim and they give me another chance, I get the crowd support.. step back a couple steps.... gear up ....
just short of the rim... AGAIN. ='(
I FELT LIKE A FAILUREEEEE.
As I walked off the court I am getting high fives, "good shot, nice try, you were so close", and I feel a sense of relief. I did my best, I knew what I was doing and it just didn't pan out. But the greatest feeling of them all is I really tried, I didn't feel as nervous as I thought I would because the court is my comfort zone. As soon as the ball was in my hands I forgot there was roughly 19,000 people watching me.
